Finding the perfect pillow is a very individual experience, so what feels soft to one person might feel very firm to another. We do, however, have some general guidelines to help point you in the right direction for your perfect pillow.
If you are set on having a down or down and feather pillow, but you still want some support there are a few things to look for. A general rule of thumb for feather and down pillows are that the higher the feather content in a pillow, the firmer it will be. So if you have a 100% white goose down pillow, it will usually be soft and very malleable. On the flipside, if you have a pillow that is 95% white goose feather and 5% white goose down, the pillow will be much fuller and firmer in feel and support. Another thing to look at in feather and down pillows is the fill weight. The higher the fill weight the fuller the pillow. Pillows with a higher fill weight tend to hold their form better, thus making them more supportive for side sleepers. Below are a few of our most supportive feather and down pillows:
Over the last few years synthetic-filled pillows have made great strides in comfort, support, and durability. Pillows.com carries pillows filled with synthetic material that feel like down.
